• Welcome to Friends of St Michael Road

This group’s visibility is temporarily set to public to make it easier for members to find and join. It will return to private in 2 weeks.

This group exists to protect the road leading to the Tacarigua Forestry facility, a stretch that has been targeted by illegal dumping for years by people from as far as Tunapuna and D’Abadie.

Since 2018, this community, originally a WhatsApp group of about 200 hikers, cyclists, and residents, has installed CCTV, put up No Dumping signage, and worked with the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation, the Arouca Police Station, and the Praedial Larceny Squad to hold offenders accountable. Two major clean-ups have already removed truckloads of garbage from the area.

None of this would have happened without Gregory Bowyer, whose years of advocacy and reporting turned this from a small resident concern into a recognised community effort.

This group works alongside our WhatsApp chat, not instead of it:

      • Reports and photos are organised and searchable here, instead of scrolling back through weeks of messages
      • Notifications are more relevant, you’re alerted to what matters to you, not every message in a 100+ person chat
      • Direct connection to TPRC and other agencies on the platform itself
      • Access to the wider HOATT network of environmentally conscious groups facing similar issues
      • Nothing gets lost, files and evidence stay archived here for reference

      What you can do here:

      • Report a dumping incident, with photos or video, using HOATT’s ticketing and reporting system
      • Share footage from the CCTV or your own phone as evidence
      • Flag repeat offenders or vehicles for the group and TPRC to act on
      • Suggest or join upcoming projects, including the Poui tree planting initiative along the road

If you’re new to the area or this cause: this road matters to the people who hike it, bike it, and live near it. Every report you file helps build the case that keeps enforcement moving.

      • Click the “Reports” tab in the group menu to submit or view reports of illegal dumping. Each report is a self-contained discussion, visible to Public Representatives, Government Agencies, Officials, and other citizens, helping strengthen your case.

Your identity is protected by default, but if you’d rather stay unnamed, just check the “Post Anonymously” box.
